Description
The Mediterranean Horse Mackerel has a fusiform shape with a silvery colour which reflects light. Its is an abundant commercial fish in the Mediterranean Sea and is represented by a subspecies in the Marmara Sea, namely the Trachurus Mediterraneus Ponticus! It can reach a length of 60cm! They are no threat to humans.
Habitat
It spends its days scouring the sea floor in subtropical seas where it is found. It is characterised by its migratory nature and the huge schools it forms!
Feeding
Carnivorous in nature these great schooling fish hunt for smaller fish usually sardines and anchovies but have been known to feed on small crustaceans as well.
Life History
The eggs of these fish are pelagic. That is to say they occupy the surface of the waters they inhabit staying close to the surface.
